Our 10 Year Anniversary

More Than Food: How God Has Moved Through i58 Ministry

Ten years ago, Carol had a decision to make. This decision would later lead to advocating and helping hundreds of people in Farmer’s Branch.

In 2014, Carol attended a conference that addressed food distribution, and she knew it was exactly what Royal Haven needed to do for their community.

“I cried all the way home,” Carol recalls, “because I clearly heard God telling me this is what we needed to do.” She now was faced with the decision to be obedient and pursue this burden, or let it go.

Carol shared her dream with Rick, and with his constant support, I58 Ministry took its first step toward obedience that led to the overflowing ministry it is today, touching the lives of nearly 500 families.

It started with families. It began with helping one family with five kids have enough food. From there it began to grow.

John 6:35 “Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.’”

This is the heart of I58.  Families are struggling to make ends meet, and more than that many families are feeling lost and worn down. Carol who deeply loves and cares for every family who comes through the ministry, is passionate for each and every family to know that Jesus loves them indescribably more. They are given value as the team greets all who pass through with a smile and open arms to give without shame or judgement.

Maria and her family was one whose lives were changed because of I58. A single mom of four children came to one of the family days filled with hotdogs and bounce houses. Marty and Melinda were serving also this day.  Marty invited Maria’s children to go to camp that summer. There they heard the message of the love of Jesus and one accepted Jesus as their savior! Maria and all four children came to know Christ.

Through the love of Jesus, we can show the community around us value. We can help families who are hurting and scared know that they are unconditionally loved. Our volunteers have been vital in our success. The hours and love they have given to I58 for their community is incredible and I58 would not be where it is today without all that our volunteers tirelessly give to help the cause.

As we celebrate the last ten years, we are filled with gratitude for God’s faithfulness. All to Him be the glory as He has given us all we need to help those struggling in our community. We look forward to the next decade, trusting that He will continue to use i58 Ministry to bring hope and restoration to our community.
